"Anxiety, nightmares and a nervous breakdown, there's only so many traumas a person can withstand until they take to the streets and start screaming."
Okay first of all, let me say, this just might be Woody Allen's finest film. There was NO bad perfomance in this movie in my opinion. Especially, Cate Blanchett! Gosh, she did an awesome job here! Previously I had heard how good Cate's acting was in Blue Jasmine, but I didn't expect her acting to be this good. As soon as I finished watching this film, I immediately muttered to myself, '
Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) is a socialite from New York's Park Avenue. Her husband, Hal (Alec Baldwin) is a wealthy businessman. However, Jasmine's life changed suddenly when her husband turned out to be a corrupt man who ended up going to prison and committing suicide there. The government also confiscated almost all of his assets. Because he was suddenly poor, he was forced to go to San Francisco to live temporarily with his sister, Ginger (Sally Hawkins). Ginger's life is very different from Jasmine's, which is very luxurious, she only lives in a small apartment with her two children. Ginger has separated from her husband, Augie (Andrew Dice Clay), and she is now dating a reckless man named Chili (Bobby Cannavale).
Jasmine is of course very stressed. She doesn't have a job, nor are there any rich men she can use as prospects. He began to experience nervous disorders because he was too stressed, which caused him to often digress when he remembered the past. "Some people, they don't put things behind so easily." He also became dependent on sedative pills and sleeping pills. Not to mention he was addicted to alcohol. His life fell apart. But he still did 'come on stage'. With her expensive clothes, bags, shoes, jackets and accessories, she still looks like a rich woman who still flies by plane. first class, even though this is actually just camouflage. Prestige certainly plays an important role here.
Cate Blanchett plays Jasmine very realistically. The audience definitely doesn't like Jasmine's character here, but it still cannot be denied that the audience feels sorry for her throughout the film. We just can't help but feel for her. I also have to say that I like all the outfits worn by Jasmine here. All those designer dresses, cardigans, and handbags are just beautiful lol! Alec Baldwin also fits the role of the rich husband who seems arrogant and arrogant. Likewise with Sally Hawkins, whose character is the complete opposite of Jasmine. I love the contrast between the two. Even though Peter Sarsgaard only appears briefly, he still has an important essence in the entire film. The presence of Bobby Cannavale as Chili also makes this film more colorful. Some of the scenes made me laugh with the presentation black comedy Woody style. As I said at the beginning, all the cast play with their own totality.
At the age of 77, Woody Allen still seems to consistently release at least one film every year. There are some really good ones, like Midnight in Paris (2010) -i really like this film. There are also ordinary ones ..hmm not good. However, with the presence of Blue Jasmine in 2013, Woody Allen once again proved that he is indeed a master at making films and writing stories that play with human psychology. Emotional and dramatic. It's touching and sad, but there's still a smile in it. Definitely one of his best movie in the last 20 years, and of course, one of my favourite too.
