REVIEW: INTO THE STORM

"There is no calm before the storm."

Disaster movie is always fun to watch, but it needs to be acknowledged that quite a few end up being disasters too. I decided to watch Into The Storm because the trailer looked very interesting and seemed worth watching. Not having high expectations, I finally watched this film myself, in Malaysia too. Please note that cinemas in Malaysia are super duper cold. Not important. Haha.. Anyway, I ended up enjoyed this movie. It was better than I expected to be. Not a great movie, but the tornado scenes are worth seeing. The thing that really makes this film fail is actually the story plot which has holes here and there, is too predictable and uninteresting. It seems that the aim of selling it is only the tornado effect and actually most of the terrible effects have been shown off in the trailer.

It was reported that the city of Silverton would be hit by a series of tornadoes. This is not an ordinary tornado but a tornado that is very rarely encountered and has extraordinary power that can destroy everything that exists in an instant. A documentary filmmaker specializing in tornadoes, Pete (Matt Walsh) and meteorologist Allison (Sarah Wayne Callies) together with the crew took to the field to get this spectacular moment which rarely happens. On the other hand, Gary (Richard Armitage) a teacher who was busy with the graduation ceremony at his school was separated from one of his sons, Donnie (Max Deacon). With his second son, Trey (Nathan Kress), they also tried to find Donnie in the midst of the tornado.

Overall, this movie was just okay. As I mentioned, the tornado effect in this film is very epic. Especially when a tornado mixed with fire swirls in the air and destroys the surroundings. Thumbs up! But yes, from the start we seem to have guessed what would happen. No twist is presented. The characters in this film are like that 'floating', the audience is not convinced by all the characters in this film. The point is, in my opinion, Into The Storm will be quite an entertaining watch for the audience, but a month later the audience may have forgotten that they ever watched this film. Watch it or skip it, it's up to you.
